What DJ? presents: Speedway #5

With the regular updates (which I hope to keep), also a new mixtape from my alter-ego What DJ? are now presented here. "Speedway" maintains the highlight on the different flavours of house music, with a disco touch, previous characteristic of the "Synthmatic" mixtapes. In this edition, there are tracks from Aeroplane, Drop Out Orchestra, Zimmer, Mirror People, Metronomy or Foster The People, among others, and serves as an appetizer for Saturday night, where I'll be playing in the room 2 of Hard Club (Oporto) - alongside Mister Teaser, companion of Diskette.

Com o blog a recuperar a actualização regular (que espero manter), chega também uma nova mixtape do meu alter-ego What DJ?. "Speedway" mantém o destaque nas diferentes vertentes da house music, com um toque disco, já característico das anteriores "Synthmatic". Nesta edição, há temas de Aeroplane, Drop Out Orchestra, Zimmer, Mirror People, Metronomy ou Foster The People, entre outros, e serve de aperitivo para a noite de sábado, onde estarei pela Sala 2 do Hard Club (Porto) - ao lado de Mister Teaser, companheiro de Diskette.

focus on: Gesaffelstein

Mike Levy uses techno and electro as tools to create a distinctive sound, with dark textures and a special attention to the composition of the tracks. Listening to Gesaffelstein work is truly a journey, even a roller-coaster ride sometimes: between tension build-ups, shadowed areas and the physical appeal of the raw beats.

After a couple of singles, about a year ago Turbo Recordings released the EP "Variations" and Gesaffelstein became a name to watch out. This year, "Conspiracy" and collaborations with The Hacker and Brodinski, along remixes for Duck Sauce, ZZT, Miss Kittin, Cassius, Moby or Crackboy, proved definitely his talent between the new blood of techno.

His debut album is due to be out in early 2012 and as he'll be touring all over the world by then, soon you will see what this french young artist can do on a dancefloor. For the portuguese folks: 12th April at Lux (Lisbon) and the next day at Plano B (Oporto).



Mike Levy usa o techno e o electro como ferramentas para criar um som característico, com texturas negras e uma atenção especial à composição das músicas. Ouvir o trabalho de Gesaffelstein é verdadeiramente uma viagem, por vezes até de montanha-russa: entre crescendos de tensão, áreas mais sombrias e o apelo físico das batidas cruas.

Depois de um par de singles, há cerca de um ano atrás a Turbo Recordings lançou o EP "Variations" e Gesaffelstein tornou-se um nome a ter em atenção. Este ano, "Conspiracy" (dois EPs diferentes) e colaborações com The Hacker e Brodinski, a par de remisturas para Duck Sauce, ZZT, Miss Kittin, Cassius, Moby ou Crackboy, provaram definitivamente o seu talento entre o sangue novo do techno.

O lançamento do álbum de estreia está previsto para o início de 2012 e, com a digressão mundial, em breve vão poder ver o que este jovem artista francês pode fazer numa pista de dança. Para os portugueses: 12 de Abril no Lux (Lisboa) e no dia seguinte no Plano B (Porto).
